Royal Challengers Bengaluru to retain name under new ownership
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will retain its current name following a change in ownership. Aryaman Birla, chairman of the franchise, confirmed that the team will not undergo rebranding despite recent speculation.
The franchise is now controlled by a consortium including the Aditya Birla Group, Times of India Group, Bolt Ventures, and Blackstone’s BXPE. The ownership group acquired RCB for approximately $1.78 billion (₹16,706 crore) in a deal covering both the men’s Indian Premier League (IPL) and women’s Premier League (WPL) teams.
Birla stated that the decision to keep the name is based on the strength of the existing brand and its community traction. Looking forward, the ownership aims to expand the franchise's value by increasing non-IPL revenue and fostering year-round engagement with supporters beyond the standard cricket season.
