Royal Clarence Hotel marks 10 years since devastating fire

The Royal Clarence Hotel in Exeter is marking the 10th anniversary of the disastrous Cathedral Yard fire that occurred on October 28, 2016. The site's history has been marked by tragedy, ownership changes, and delays following the blaze.

New owners are currently highlighting ambitious restoration plans for the site. The location holds significant historical value, with archaeological excavations beneath the cellars revealing Roman remnants from the city of Isca Dumnoniorum. The site has evolved from a grand Canon’s house in the 13th century to a landmark hotel.
