Royal Collection Trust corrects error regarding King Charles III accession date

The Royal Collection Trust issued a correction on social media after mistakenly stating that King Charles III acceded to the throne in 2023. In an Instagram post featuring a coronation portrait by Peter Kuhfeld, the organization’s caption originally read, “On this day in 2023, King Charles III acceded the throne.”

Social media users quickly pointed out the error, noting that the King officially ascended to the throne in September 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The coronation itself took place on May 6, 2023. The Trust subsequently amended the caption to reflect the correct year.

The portrait, which depicts the King in his coronation robes, is currently displayed in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace.
