Royal College of Music report finds business leaders value music skills

A report by the Royal College of Music reveals that business leaders highly value music education for developing essential workplace competencies. The study, which surveyed 2,000 UK adults and 302 business leaders, found that music ranks as the top subject for creativity and innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and adaptability and flexibility.

Music also placed highly in communication skills, time management, and problem solving. Despite these findings, the research notes that fewer children in the UK have the opportunity to study music at school than at any point in a generation, coinciding with a decline in music GCSE and A-Level participation.

Additionally, the report highlights the economic importance of the sector, with 49% of British adults identifying music as the UK’s greatest export, surpassing scientific research, technology innovation, and manufacturing.
