Royal Docks Waterways initiates floating neighbourhood feasibility study

Royal Docks Waterways has appointed a multidisciplinary team to conduct a nine-month feasibility study for a proposed floating residential community at Royal Victoria Dock West in London. The project, part of a larger waterfront transformation, aims to explore the viability of residential moorings and floating homes supported by shared infrastructure for both water-based and land-based residents.

The study is led by Haptic Architects and Gort Scott, with Stace and Oakridge managing the business case. The initiative seeks to utilize ‘blue-space urbanism’ to enhance urban health, ecology, and quality of life. The development process will include pre-application meetings with Newham Council planners and two distinct periods of public engagement, with the first phase of community workshops and sessions scheduled to begin in October.
