Royal Exchange Theatre Company announces 2027-2028 season

The Royal Exchange Theatre Company has unveiled its 2027-2028 season, marking a new chapter for the Manchester-based institution. Artistic Director and Co-CEO Selina Cartmell announced a programme of eight ambitious productions, including four world premieres and one UK premiere. The season features works such as Brian Friel’s ‘Faith Healer’, a reimagined Shakespearean comedy ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ starring Beverley Knight, and Simon Stephens’ ‘The First Blue Thing’.

As part of this new era, the theatre is reclaiming its original name and reopening its 100-seat Studio space for the first time since March 2020. The reopening will allow for auditorium refurbishments in the main 750-seat theatre. The company also launched The Bruntwood Prize for North West Playwriting to support regional talent. The upcoming season includes collaborations with various artists and companies, such as the Talawa Theatre Company and THISISPOPBABY.
