Royal Irrigation Department manages dam discharge to protect Bangkok

The Royal Irrigation Department has confirmed that water discharge from the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak Jolasid dams is being managed effectively and will not impact the flood protection embankments of Bangkok.

Currently, the Chao Phraya Dam is discharging approximately 2,500 cubic meters per second. At the C. 29B monitoring station in Sam Khok, Pathum Thani—the final measurement point before water reaches Bangkok—the average flow is approximately 2,382 cubic meters per second, which remains below the 3,600 cubic meter threshold that would affect Bangkok's embankments.

Due to high water levels, the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam is utilizing a step-by-step discharge method to reduce storage and increase capacity for incoming water. The department is also working to drain canal systems in preparation for new waves of rainfall. Authorities have advised residents in Bangkok and surrounding provinces to remain vigilant regarding heavy rainfall and accumulated water levels.
