Royal Lodge to be re-leased following Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's departure

The Crown Estate is seeking a new private tenant for the Royal Lodge, a 30-room mansion in Windsor Great Park, following the departure of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The property has been vacant since Andrew moved to the Sandringham estate in February.

Reports indicate the new lease could command an annual rent of approximately £1 million. Prospective tenants will also face significant financial responsibilities, including an estimated £400,000 in annual maintenance costs. While there was speculation regarding members of the Royal Family taking over the residence, sources suggest no family members have expressed interest, leading the Crown Estate to look toward wealthy private individuals.

Andrew’s current lease agreement remains legally binding until October 2026. This arrangement prevents any major renovations to the property until the contract expires, though it also ensures that ongoing running costs remain the responsibility of the current leaseholder rather than the Crown Estate.
