Royal Mail announces review potentially cutting 2,500 jobs

Royal Mail has announced an organisational review that could result in the loss of up to 2,500 jobs by the end of 2027. The proposed cuts are expected to affect head office and support functions across the company.

The company stated the move is part of a “significant transformation” to adapt to a changing market where letter volumes have dropped by more than 70 per cent from their peak. This shift comes as demand for faster and more convenient parcel delivery services increases.

Chief Executive Officer Alistair Cochrane noted that the changes aim to reduce costs, simplify processes, and remove duplication to allow for further investment in customer service. Royal Mail indicated it will work closely with trade unions during the process.
