Royal Malaysia Police faces scrutiny over misconduct and arrests

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is under investigation following the death of a detainee, Noorizwan Zulkefly, at the Cheras District Police Headquarters. Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail, stated that the force will not protect any members found guilty of misconduct or disciplinary breaches in the case. The Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC) is currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of death and whether procedural violations occurred.

Separately, data from the Ministry of Home Affairs reveals that 2,097 police officers and personnel have been arrested for drug-related offenses, robbery, and corruption between 2021 and August 2026. This figure includes 1,551 arrests for drug offenses, 64 for robbery, and 482 by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
