Royal Netherlands Navy partners with Destinus for drone interceptor evaluation

The Royal Netherlands Navy and Destinus have entered into a Concept Development & Evaluation contract to integrate the Hornet B2 kinetic counter-UAS interceptor onto Dutch warships. The program aims to provide a cost-effective layer of defense against medium-range drones, loitering munitions, and helicopters.

Unlike traditional interceptor missiles, the Hornet B2 is launched from a canister via a rocket booster before transitioning to electric-powered cruise flight using folding wings. This architecture is designed to offer aircraft-class range and endurance with a significantly lower cost per engagement than high-end naval air-defense missiles. The system features a range exceeding 150 km and utilizes electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) seekers.

The evaluation program, which includes the delivery of interceptor systems and integrated logistics support, is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2027. Dutch naval operators will participate directly in the development process to help define technical requirements and specifications.
