Royal Thai Police warn of theft during flood emergencies

The Royal Thai Police have issued a warning regarding opportunistic theft during current flooding caused by heavy rainfall and flash floods. Police officials expressed concern that criminals may target residents who have been forced to evacuate or leave their homes unattended.

Authorities emphasized that theft in flood-affected areas is considered an aggravated offense under Section 335 (2) of the Criminal Code. Convicted individuals face severe penalties, including 1 to 5 years of imprisonment and fines ranging from 20,000 to 100,000 baht.

To mitigate risks, the police advise citizens to lock their homes, secure valuables in high, hidden locations, or carry important documents when evacuating. Residents are also encouraged to establish community watch networks and report any suspicious individuals loitering in flooded areas via boat or vehicle to the authorities.
