Royd Tolkien releases ALS documentary honoring late brother

Royd Tolkien, the great-grandson of J. R. R. Tolkien, has released a documentary titled ‘There’s a Hole in My Bucket’ to honor his late brother, Mike, who passed away from ALS in 2015.

Before his death, Mike secretly created a list of 50 challenges for Royd to complete, to be revealed one by one. The film follows Royd as he faces various fears to fulfill these requests, which include activities such as flying a plane, skydiving, and allowing a large spider to crawl on him.

In addition to the film screening at the Newport Beach Film Festival, an auction is being held to raise funds for the ALS Network. The auction features a copy of ‘The Letters of J. R. R. Tolkien’ autographed by cast members of the upcoming ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ film, including Ian McKellen and Kate Winslet.
