Rozwój Plus proposes mandatory military training for Polish MPs

The Rozwój Plus parliamentary group has submitted a bill to the Sejm proposing mandatory military training for all members of parliament, including senators and Polish MEPs, up to the age of 60. The proposal applies to both men and women.

The training program is designed to last a maximum of 58 days, consisting of 30 days of theoretical instruction at the Academy of War Studies and 28 days of practical training at a military training ground. The practical component is intended to be comparable to the basic stage of the Voluntary Basic Military Service.

Proponents of the bill, including Mateusz Morawiecki, argue that parliamentarians should not be exempt from the duties of increasing the security of the Republic. The project also allows for parliamentarians to serve within the Territorial Defence Forces. To minimize disruption to legislative duties, theoretical training could be divided into shorter periods, and practical training would ideally take place during non-working weeks or weekends.
