Rozzano: Investigations into citizen patrols for racial-hate beatings

Tensions have escalated in Rozzano, near Milan, following a series of violent incidents and the emergence of citizen-led 'security patrols' or 'ronde'. The unrest was triggered by a reported assault on a 40-year-old woman in her vehicle, which subsequently led to a violent retaliatory beating of a 24-year-old Moroccan man by residents. Carabinieri investigators have informed the Prosecutor's Office that the assault on the man is being investigated as a crime aggravated by racial hatred.

In response to the growing instability, the Prefecture of Milan ordered reinforced police presence in the area. During extraordinary patrols, authorities identified 57 individuals, checked 21 vehicles, and conducted searches that resulted in one arrest for drug dealing and four reports for drug and weapon offenses. Additionally, an 18-year-old woman was reported for resisting public officials after an altercation with officers.

Local officials, including Mayor Mattia Ferretti, have condemned the unauthorized citizen patrols. The community remains on edge as authorities attempt to restore order in the residential districts.
