RPCS3 emulator advances PS3 cell processor emulation
The open‑source PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3 has implemented a high‑level emulation of the cellSysmodule system module, reducing its reliance on Sony's official firmware and giving developers more control over compatibility fixes.
In a separate breakthrough, lead contributor Elad added new code that better detects SPU usage patterns, generating more efficient native PC code. This yields modest performance gains—5‑7% higher FPS in Twisted Metal and up to 100% speed‑up in some tests—while raising the emulator's overall compatibility rating from 73.44% to 73.82% of playable titles.
