Árpád Antal warns against AUR party rising to power in Romania
Árpád Antal, the mayor of Sfântu Gheorghe and strategic director of the Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), has warned against the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) rising to power. During a press conference, Antal argued that the AUR lacks viable solutions for the country and that its governance could lead to irreversible damage.
Antal specifically highlighted the risk of Romania losing European Union funding, noting that the nation’s development and functioning are heavily dependent on these resources. He stated that without EU support, the country could face bankruptcy.
Furthermore, Antal challenged the perception that the AUR is not anti-Hungarian. He cited legislative proposals introduced by party leaders George Simion and Dan Tanasă as evidence of an agenda targeting the Hungarian community. He also rejected the idea that the AUR is an anti-system force, suggesting instead that the current political system facilitated its rise.
