RRECSO-Américas initiative launches soybean cultivar evaluation across five countries

Five countries—Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia, and Peru—have launched the RRECSO-Américas initiative to improve the selection of soybean cultivars. The project, funded by Fontagro and executed by the Fundación ArgenINTA, aims to develop comparative yield trials to identify which varieties are best adapted to specific environments.

Researchers will evaluate genotypes across more than 180 different environments using a unified protocol. This standardized methodology is designed to provide comparable technical information for producers, seed companies, and technical advisors. The initiative will create regional databases and a digital platform integrating data on climate, soil, agronomic management, and grain quality.

The project involves participation from the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) and receives technical support from the University of Florida. This marks the first time in Fontagro's 30-year history that it has financed a project dedicated specifically to soybeans.
