RRI Takengon uses Gayo language programming to preserve local culture

Research from Universitas Islam Negeri Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh highlights the role of Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) Pro 1 Takengon in preserving Gayo culture and language through specialized broadcasting.

One study examines the 'Cerite Senye' program, which serves as a tool for cultural education by sharing folklore, traditions, and local wisdom. The program aims to combat the declining use of the Gayo language among youth caused by globalization and the dominance of Indonesian.

Another study details the news broadcasting process in the Gayo language, noting that while the initiative helps maintain local identity in the public information space, it faces challenges such as a shortage of personnel proficient in the language and difficulties in translating specific terms for broadcast. To address these issues, the station involves language experts and conducts language editing to improve announcer capabilities.
