Rúrik Gíslason reveals he watched his mother's funeral on YouTube

Former professional footballer Rúrik Gíslason shared emotional details regarding the death of his mother in 2020 during a Sky television appearance. Gíslason stated that he was unable to attend her funeral in person because his employer at the time, SV Sandhausen, pressured him to return to Germany for training.

While Gíslason was able to visit his mother in a hospice in Iceland shortly before she passed away from cancer, he was unable to fulfill a promise to carry her casket. He reported that he felt he had no choice but to comply with his club's demands due to fear of professional consequences. As a result, he had to watch the funeral service remotely via YouTube.
