RSPCA prosecutes dog cruelty cases in Wales and Australia

In Swansea, Wales, 68‑year‑old William Johns was convicted after two Jack Russell Terriers were found severely obese, the larger weighing 14.2 kg. One dog was euthanised due to heart failure, and the surviving dog was rescued by the RSPCA. Johns received a 15‑year ban on keeping animals and a suspended eight‑month prison sentence.

In Gingin, Western Australia, a 45‑year‑old woman from Joondanna faces 18 counts of animal cruelty after RSPCA inspectors rescued three adult Staffordshire Bull Terrier crossbreeds and seven puppies from unsanitary conditions. The dogs were found amidst faeces, maggots and untreated injuries. The accused could face a $50,000 fine and up to five years in prison, with the case scheduled for hearing on 17 November at Midland Magistrates Court.
