RSPCA seeks new home for rabbit trio on International Rabbit Day

Coinciding with International Rabbit Day on September 26, the RSPCA Thanet and District Branch is seeking a new home for a trio of rabbits: Chestnut, Acorn, and Conker. The rabbits have been in RSPCA care for two years after Chestnut was rescued from a neglect situation.

Animal Centre manager Hannah White described the rabbits as friendly and food-motivated, noting that they must be rehomed together. The RSPCA highlighted that rabbits are among the small pets most likely to be abandoned; between 2024 and 2025, the charity dealt with 896 abandoned rabbits.

In the UK, where approximately 700,000 rabbits are kept as pets, the RSPCA and the Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund have advocated for a breeding amnesty to address rising numbers of abandoned and mistreated animals. Between 2021 and 2025, RSPCA national centres took in 10,943 rabbits rescued from cruelty and neglect.
