RSS forms panel to propose OTT content regulation
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has formed an informal panel to develop a regulatory framework for Over-the-Top (OTT) streaming platforms. The group, which includes former vice-chancellors and RSS pracharaks specializing in education and culture, aims to address what it describes as “cultural pollution” and the erosion of traditional family values.
The panel intends to propose a mechanism similar to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) used for cinema to oversee digital content. This initiative follows previous statements by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat regarding the impact of certain digital content on children and societal morality.
The group plans to consult with legal experts and specialists in digital media before submitting its formal recommendations to the Union Ministry of Culture and other central government stakeholders. While the panel has held its initial meetings, no specific deadline for the final proposal has been established.
