Ørsted completes 920 MW offshore wind project in Taiwan
Ørsted has completed the construction of its Greater Changhua Southwest Phase II and Northwest offshore wind farms in Taiwan. The project features 66 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 turbines, each with a capacity of 14 MW, totaling 920 MW.
With the addition of these new sites, Ørsted’s total installed capacity in the Greater Changhua area has reached 1.82 GW. The project utilized the Wind Maker installation vessel from Cadeler for the transport and installation process, which was completed in January.
TSMC has signed a 20-year corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) to procure the entire electricity output from the Greater Changhua Southwest Phase II and Northwest wind farms. This partnership links large-scale offshore wind production with long-term corporate green energy demand.
Taiwanese officials noted that offshore wind remains a critical component of the nation’s energy transition. The government aims to expand offshore wind capacity toward a target of 15 to 18 GW while fostering local industry cooperation and exploring new technologies like floating offshore wind.
