Ørsted inaugurates Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm in Germany

Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure have inaugurated the Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm in Germany. The 913 MW project, located approximately 72 kilometers off the German North Sea coast, is capable of generating enough renewable electricity to power nearly one million German households.

Owned equally by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure, the facility connects directly to the DolWin epsilon converter platform, operated by TenneT. This project marks Ørsted’s largest offshore wind farm in Germany, bringing its total installed offshore wind capacity in the country to approximately 2.5 GW.

This development occurs amid a broader trend of increasing global energy investment. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global energy investment is projected to reach a record $3.4 trillion in 2026. A significant portion of this growth is driven by electrical grids, with global spending on grids estimated to reach $550 billion in 2026, a 20% increase from the previous year, to support rising electricity demand and renewable energy integration.
