RSV Vaccine Reduces Hospital Stays for Seniors in Danish Study

A large trial involving 131,276 Danish adults aged 60 and older found that the RSVprefF (RSVpreF) vaccine cut all‑cause cardiorespiratory hospitalizations by about 9.9% during the 2024‑2025 winter season. Participants receiving the vaccine experienced fewer admissions for heart and lung complications compared with those who did not, with modest trends toward lower rates of stroke, heart attack and heart failure. The study, published in JAMA, underscores the broader health benefits of preventing respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in aging populations.

RSV, a highly contagious virus that causes cold‑like symptoms, can lead to severe respiratory illness in infants, young children and older adults.
