RTÉ and BBC to broadcast drama on ‘Mr. Moonlight’ murder

RTÉ and the BBC are set to broadcast a five-part drama series titled ‘The Murder of Mr. Moonlight’ next year. The production, by Conker Pictures and Samson Films, dramatizes the high-profile disappearance and murder of Bobby Ryan, a popular Tipperary DJ known as ‘Mr. Moonlight.’

Ryan disappeared in June 2011 and his body was discovered two years later in an underground tank. The case led to one of the longest and most publicized murder trials in Irish history, resulting in the life imprisonment of Patrick Quirke in 2019. The series aims to focus on the human impact of the tragedy and the relationships within the rural community that led to the crime.

The cast includes Brendan Coyle as Bobby Ryan, Owen McDonnell as Patrick Quirke, and Sinéad Keenan as Mary Lowry. Hazel Doupe will portray Ryan’s daughter, Michelle Ryan, who has been involved in the production process.
