RTÉ removes Garda whistleblower documentary following DPP correspondence

RTÉ has temporarily removed the documentary ‘RTÉ Investigates – The Gardaí: Full Disclosure’ from its streaming service following correspondence from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The broadcaster stated the withdrawal is linked to an upcoming court case referenced in the programme and confirmed the documentary will remain unavailable on the RTÉ Player until the relevant legal proceedings have concluded.

Following the broadcast, Garda whistleblowers Dr Donal Corcoran and Detective Superintendent Brian O'Reilly have called for an independent investigation into the protected disclosure system within An Garda Síochána. The whistleblowers questioned claims by ministers and police leadership that legislation prevents them from commenting on the concerns raised.

Various organizations, including the Garda Representative Association (GRA), the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI), and the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL), have also called for a public inquiry into the issues raised by the investigation.
