RTE evacuated following bomb threat sent to European media
The headquarters of Ireland’s public broadcaster, RTE, was evacuated on Friday after receiving a bomb threat via email. The threatening message was also sent to other media organizations in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
An Garda Síochána, including members of the Armed Response Unit, attended the scene to inspect the premises for explosive devices. As a precaution, RTE replaced its live programming with pre-recorded content. The Garda confirmed they are investigating threats directed at media organizations in Ireland and other European countries.
This incident follows a series of false bomb threats on Thursday that affected at least 27 flights across Europe, including those operated by Aer Lingus and Ryanair. Irish Defense Minister Helen McEntee described the situation as “extremely concerning,” particularly regarding security preparations for upcoming European Union meetings in Dublin. Ireland is currently holding the presidency of the EU Council and is scheduled to host a meeting of the European Political Community next week.
