RTÜK imposes 8 million TL fine on ATV television channel

The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has imposed an administrative fine of approximately 8 million TL on the ATV television channel. The penalty, equivalent to 1% of the channel's broadcasting revenue, stems from a June 2026 decision regarding the program "Esra Erol'da."

RTÜK justified the sanction by stating that content involving a DNA test to determine a child's father could negatively affect the physical, mental, or moral development of children and youth.

In response, Turkuvaz Medya, the parent company of ATV and A Haber, criticized the decision, claiming that media outlets exhibiting a "national stance" are being subjected to pressure. An analysis broadcast on A Haber drew parallels to the 17-25 December period, noting that the channel previously faced nearly 300 sanctions. Additionally, the media group raised concerns regarding a perceived double standard, questioning why traditional television broadcasters face strict regulation while digital platforms like YouTube, Netflix, and TikTok do not undergo similar scrutiny.
