RTÜK imposes administrative fines on Sözcü TV and Koza TV
Turkey’s Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has issued administrative fines to Sözcü TV and Koza TV following investigations into broadcast violations.
Sözcü TV was penalized for programs aired on October 7 and 8, 2026. The Council determined that discussions involving journalist İsmail Saymaz regarding Trade Minister Ömer Bolat’s alleged involvement in a financial fund, and remarks concerning AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, prevented viewers from forming accurate and healthy opinions about government officials.
Koza TV received sanctions for broadcasts on October 8. The Council cited the use of definitive language regarding a fund investigation, specifically statements suggesting an organized crime involving all members of the ruling party. RTÜK ruled that these claims attributed heavy criminal accusations to an entire political group without sufficient verification.
RTÜK member Tuncay Keser voted against the sanctions, arguing that journalists should not be expected to prove allegations like prosecutors and that reporting on matters of public interest is protected under the right to information.
