RTÜK launches probe of Sözcü TV broadcast over false accusations against Syrian president

Turkey's Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) announced it has opened an investigation into a Sözcü TV programme that aired remarks targeting Syria's legitimate head of state. The regulator said the broadcast contained "false accusations" that could damage good neighbourly relations and are inconsistent with Turkey's foreign‑policy vision, fundamental principles and diplomatic doctrine.

RTÜK stated that the inquiry is being carried out under the Radio and Television Law No. 6112 and will be overseen by its monitoring experts, who will assess whether the content violates the applicable broadcasting service principles.
