RTL Hungary editor-in-chief departs following controversial campaign
RTL Hungary has announced that Kata Márkus is stepping down from her position as editor-in-chief of the morning program ‘Reggeli’. Ádám Jakab, the editor-in-chief of ‘Fókusz’, will temporarily assume leadership of the morning magazine starting October 26.
The departure follows a controversial campaign involving actress Dorka Gryllus and the retailer DM, which aimed to raise awareness about less common symptoms of menopause. During the October 12 broadcast, Gryllus exhibited physical symptoms such as trembling and discomfort as part of the campaign. This led to investigations by the Hungarian Competition Authority and the Self-Regulatory Advertising Board.
RTL acknowledged that the execution of the campaign raised questions and caused disappointment, though the company maintained its support for the social objectives of the initiative. Reports suggest internal dissatisfaction among staff regarding the lack of prior notification about the staged segment, and an internal investigation is reportedly underway.
