RTP board reaches agreement with unions over subsidy regularization
The Board of Directors of RTP has reached an agreement with unions regarding the regularization of subsidies previously identified as “undue” by the General Inspection of Finance (IGF). The agreement aims to integrate these supplementary remunerations into the Company Agreement (AE), following a preliminary audit report that detected over 12 million euros in such payments between 2018 and 2024.
Approximately 20% of the public broadcaster's workforce, or 339 employees, currently receive these supplements. While the integration into the formal Company Agreement seeks to regularize the payments, it may lead to increased personnel expenses for the station. RTP has maintained that the payments were not illegal, noting they were supported by internal regulations and service orders prior to 2018.
