RTP suspends subsidies following IGF audit findings

The Board of Directors of RTP has decided to preventively suspend the payment of certain subsidies identified by the General Finance Inspection (IGF) as improper. The audit, which has been ongoing for over a year, involves nine specific subsidies that were not included in the Company Agreement but were established through service orders between 2005 and 2013. These payments currently affect approximately 339 employees, including many journalists.

Labor unions and the Workers' Commission have issued a joint statement to clarify that the vast majority of RTP staff—roughly 80%—are not affected, as they do not receive the specific subsidies in question. Standard monthly payments, such as meal, transport, seniority, and integration allowances, remain secure and are not at risk of suspension.

Unions and the RTP administration, led by Nicolau Santos, are meeting to negotiate solutions to prevent the interruption of these payments. One proposal involves negotiating the inclusion of these subsidies into the Company Agreement. The situation has caused concern among staff and the RTP Opinion Council, particularly as it coincides with the selection process for a new Board of Directors.
