Manja Grčić resigns as Director General of RTS

Manja Grčić has resigned from her position as Director General of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS). In her resignation letter, dated October 28, 2026, Grčić stated that she made the decision after carefully considering the circumstances under which the public service is currently operating, noting that it is in the institution's interest to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of its work.

The resignation follows intense pressure from several groups, including RTS employees, labor unions, and the Student List, an opposition movement that recently achieved a historic victory in Serbia's parliamentary elections. Protesters and the Student List had accused the broadcaster of biased reporting and failing to provide adequate coverage of anti-government demonstrations.

Prior to her departure, Grčić had dismissed Bojana Mlađenović as news editor-in-chief and proposed Borivoje Uskoković as her successor, a move that reportedly met with resistance from a significant portion of the staff. Grčić, who was appointed in February 2026, was the first woman to lead the public broadcaster.
