RTS Link Johor Bahru-Singapore operations set for February 2027
The Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link connecting Johor Bahru and Singapore is scheduled to begin operations in February 2027. While physical construction is expected to be completed by December 31, 2024, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that the operational start date was moved from January 2027 to February 2027 following a joint decision with Singaporean authorities.
The one-month delay is intended to allow for more comprehensive safety assessments and system testing. This critical phase involves testing the integration of various systems, including signaling, passenger management, train operations, and border coordination.
Testing efforts include evaluating the performance of trains on viaducts with a maximum allowed gradient of three percent, ensuring braking and signaling systems function accurately under various weather conditions. Engineers from both Malaysia and Singapore are collaborating to ensure the infrastructure, including the stations at Bukit Chagar and Woodlands, meets all safety and reliability standards for the tens of thousands of daily commuters expected to use the service.
