RTS Link Johor Bahru-Singapore to target February 2027 operation
The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is scheduled to begin operations in February 2027, according to Malaysian Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. While a specific commencement date has not yet been determined, preparations for the cross-border service are proceeding according to schedule.
Recent efforts include the implementation of inspection systems, automatic gates, and scanners. To ensure safety and crisis management readiness, Malaysia and Singapore have conducted joint security exercises at the RTS Wadi Hana Depot in Johor Bahru. These drills test standard operating procedures for cross-border incident management, including scenarios such as train fires spanning the border.
Coordination in Malaysia is led by the National Security Council (MKN) and involves 28 ministries and agencies, including the police, military, fire department, and the Ministry of Transport. Strategic partners involved in the project include MRT Corp, Petronas, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Telekom Malaysia, and Sapura.
