RTV NOF highlights kidney health, dementia awareness, and water supply

The RTV NOF Weekend News Show highlighted several regional topics, including the upcoming Kidney Week running from September 13 to 20. Guest Bastiaan Schurink discussed his experience with kidney failure, dialysis, and receiving two donor kidneys, emphasizing the necessity of organ donation and scientific research to move from treatment to cures. Approximately 1.8 million people in the Netherlands deal with kidney disease.

In observance of Dementia Awareness Month, the program featured Hetty Combs from Stichting Ik ben Wil. The discussion focused on the theme ‘Ik blijf meedoen’ (I keep participating) and the importance of awareness regarding how dementia impacts daily life beyond simple forgetfulness.

Additionally, the broadcast addressed the future of the drinking water supply on Schiermonnikoog, featuring insights from Annet Jellema regarding a project involving local students working toward island self-sufficiency.
