RTV Slovenija signs funding deals for minority programs amid structural debates

RTV Slovenija has signed four contracts to fund radio and television programming for the Italian and Hungarian national communities for the current year. The management implemented these agreements to ensure public service continuity and fulfill responsibilities toward employees, despite expressing reservations regarding the contractual terms.

According to the broadcaster, these programs are legally mandated to be co-financed by the state budget at a rate of ten percent of the collected RTV contribution. The management had previously spent nine months advocating for a different payment method—specifically through a state decree—to avoid accepting additional contractual obligations that may conflict with existing laws.

Separately, discussions continue regarding the structural organization of RTV Slovenija. There are growing calls to decouple the 'Transmitters and Links' unit from the public broadcaster to create an independent state infrastructure company. Proponents argue this would ensure market neutrality for commercial competitors and allow the unit to more effectively serve mobile operators and emergency services.
