RTVC faces massive deficit as Córdoba reports disability support crisis
In Colombia, the national public media system RTVC faces a severe financial crisis. Auditors have certified a deficit of approximately $148.9 billion pesos. The new administration, led by Ángela Mora, has reportedly struggled to cover basic utility costs and payroll. Investigations into the previous administration under Hollman Morris highlight concerns regarding contract management, specifically noting a pattern of contract additions exceeding 50% of their original value. Between August 1 and August 6, 2026, the entity signed 230 contracts totaling over $11.6 trillion pesos.
In Argentina, the Defensoría del Pueblo in Córdoba released a report titled ‘Crisis of the System of Benefits and Supports for Persons with Disabilities in Córdoba’. The report details a significant gap between national fee schedules and inflation, noting that while inflation reached 336% between late 2023 and mid-2026, fee increases averaged only 225%.
The report highlights that only about 3% of the 400,000 people with functional limitations in Córdoba hold a valid Disability Certificate (CUD). Institutions face insolvency due to delayed payments from social works and state programs, alongside heavy tax burdens from ARCA. Additionally, therapeutic accompaniment services are severely underfunded, with reported rates significantly below ethical minimums.
