RTVC warns of critical financial deficit in Colombia
The Colombian public media system, RTVC, has warned of a critical financial crisis following a budget review as of August 31, 2026. The entity reported a significant revenue shortfall of $148,391 million against projected income.
According to the organization, the current administration is facing obligations totaling $356,566 million, which exceeds the actual funds collected by $44,303 million. RTVC attributed this imbalance to the previous administration, alleging that funds were committed to concerts, events, and other activities without sufficient cash reserves.
The deficit threatens the continuity of essential services, including electricity, public utilities, and station leases. RTVC warned that if immediate measures are not taken, public radio and television operations could be paralyzed in many regions of the country, potentially impacting access to information and democratic pluralism.
