RTVD Director proposes independent council for Dominican public television
Iván Ruiz, director of Radio Televisión Dominicana (RTVD), has announced a transformation process aimed at establishing the state broadcaster as a true public television service for all Dominican citizens. During the “La Gran Salida” event, Ruiz emphasized that the goal is to move the station away from being exclusively a tool for the current administration to become a medium that serves society at large.
To ensure this independence, Ruiz proposed the creation of an independent council composed of specialists to manage the public broadcaster. This model is intended to prevent the station's leadership from being directly inherited by successive governments, thereby strengthening institutional stability.
Additionally, Ruiz advocated for increased transparency and accountability mechanisms, citing the Spanish public television model where directors must periodically report on resource management and investments. He noted that President Luis Abinader has supported these initiatives to drive the station's evolution.
