RTVE exam leak investigation faces prison requests of up to six years

Prosecutors and various unions are seeking prison sentences of up to six years for two individuals accused of leaking the 2024 RTVE entrance examination for journalists. The investigation follows the suspension of the exam after it was discovered that 89 out of 120 questions had been leaked from a restricted circuit.

The accused, Julián Pérez and César Moreno, both linked to the UGT union, face varying sentencing requests. The Public Prosecutor is seeking three years for Moreno and two for Pérez, while RTVE's legal counsel is requesting two years for Moreno and two and a half for Pérez. However, unions CCOO, CGT, and USO have requested higher sentences of up to six and four years, respectively, citing the crime of revealing secrets and alleged criminal organization.

The leak was discovered when an interim journalist received the material and alerted Cristina Ónega, director of Canal 24 Horas and a member of the exam committee. A key piece of evidence in the investigation is a PDF file named ‘Lobo’ which reportedly contained a significant portion of the exam questions.
