RTVE President defends Silvia Intxaurrondo against PP campaign
José Pablo López, president of RTVE, has condemned a social media campaign by the Madrid branch of the People's Party (PP) as an ‘inadmissible and shameful attack’ on journalist Silvia Intxaurrondo. The controversy arose after the PP released a video titled ‘How to recognize an authoritarian government?’, which included an image of Intxaurrondo, a presenter for ‘La Hora de La 1’, accompanied by labels such as ‘RTVE, censorship, advertising control, and dossier of journalists.’
López characterized the move as a ‘political hunt’ against public television professionals and has called for urgent intervention from the Madrid Press Association (APM). He linked these tactics to previous actions taken against Telemadrid. In response, the PP of Madrid reacted with irony, posting an image of a ‘Victim Card’ to dismiss the accusations. The incident has intensified the ongoing political debate regarding the independence and neutrality of Spain's public broadcaster.
