RTX faces $100 million tariff impact on FAA modernization program
RTX is facing increased cost pressures and evolving market dynamics within the aerospace and defense sectors. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) estimates that tariffs could add approximately $100 million to RTX’s ongoing air-traffic-control modernization program. This program, which includes a partnership between Collins Aerospace and Spain’s Indra, involves $780 million in contracts for ground-based radars.
To mitigate supply-chain friction and potential tariff disruptions, RTX is investing $26.5 million to expand production capacity in Largo, Florida. This move aims to strengthen domestic manufacturing as the modernization initiative accelerates.
In the broader defense market, companies like RTX and Lockheed Martin are navigating challenges related to fixed-price development programs. These programs have faced cost overruns and delays due to increasing project complexity and a monopsony environment where buyers, such as the U.S. government, hold significant pricing power.
