Rubí celebrates historic Sant Roc festivities

The town of Rubí is celebrating the festivities of Sant Roc, a tradition with over 180 years of history. The celebration honors Saint Roch, a figure historically venerated in Catalan towns for protection against the plague. Historical records indicate that Rubí established a municipal vow to the saint in the mid-16th century to seek protection during demographic crises caused by epidemics.

The modern iteration of the festival was shaped by the creation of the Germandat de Sant Roc de Socors Mutus in 1855. Current festivities include a diverse program featuring traditional elements such as 'castells' (human towers), parades, and religious processions. Recent events have included the inauguration of a photographic exhibition documenting the festival's history, the proclamation of the 2026 Pubilla, and musical performances by local groups like the Grallers Tocaferro.
