Ruben Amorim apologises to Manchester United fans after turbulent spell

Ruben Amorim, the newly appointed head coach of AC Milan, publicly apologized to Manchester United supporters for the mistakes made during his 14‑month tenure at Old Trafford. In his first press conference as Milan manager, Amorim said, “I learned a lot, I made some mistakes and I am sorry for that,” acknowledging his role in the club’s poor performance.

Amorim was dismissed in January 2026 after leading United to a record‑low 15th‑place finish in the Premier League, the club’s worst ever league position, and a Europa League final loss. Despite a £216 million transfer budget and reaching the European final, his tactics failed to improve results, and he recorded the lowest win ratio of any permanent United manager.

Before his brief spell in England, Amorim enjoyed success with Sporting CP, winning two Primeira Liga titles. He has been hired by AC Milan to replace Massimiliano Allegri, with the aim of rebuilding his reputation and guiding the Serie A club back to the top of Italian football.
