Aaron Bouwman suffers severe injuries after collision in Ajax-PSV match

During a recent Eredivisie match between Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, a violent collision between PSV attacker Ruben van Bommel and Ajax defender Aaron Bouwman resulted in severe injuries for Bouwman. The defender suffered lung crushing, as well as injuries to his face, neck, and sternum, and is expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks.

The incident sparked significant controversy regarding the officiating. Referee Sander van der Eijk issued only a yellow card to Van Bommel, a decision that was not overturned by VAR. This led to a general brawl on the pitch involving players from both sides. While some commentators and journalists criticized the lack of a red card, others, including Johan Derksen, argued the collision was a typical accidental contact in a high-speed sport.

Despite the outcry, the Dutch professional football prosecutor has reportedly decided not to open an inquiry into the incident, meaning Van Bommel faces no additional disciplinary action.
