Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse may require relocation due to erosion

The Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse in Lønstrup may require another relocation much sooner than previously anticipated. While the iconic landmark was moved approximately 70 meters inland in 2019 to escape coastal erosion, recent large landslides near the site have raised concerns.

Experts now suggest that the lighthouse could be threatened again within five to ten years, rather than the three to four decades originally estimated. Kjeld Pedersen, the mason who led the historic 2019 relocation, noted that a large sand dune had prevented a further move at that time. He has expressed willingness to offer his expertise and advice should a new relocation operation become necessary.
